Rehashed a shot from one of my archived personal project of white objects on white backgrounds with blown out ethereal lighting. The one below is a mannequin head with a self portrait attached.
Repeats and Magrittes.
Two for the price of one! Huzzah!
What defines my life today is technology. It’s there when I wake up and I need it to do my job. Another thing that defines my life is where I live. I live in the place that I have dreamed of living since I was a kid. New York represents, for me, all my hopes and dreams that I feel I have achieved thus far in life. For this one, I wanted to merge the two, so I turned the skyline into hardware. The bottom image was originally a Manhattan skyline that I photographed from Dumbo (Brooklyn) at sunset. I deleted the sky and added in a cloud scene from a sunny day. Then dragged each layer and repeated creating a pattern. I did the reverse with the clouds so you see the outline of the sklyine floating upwards, repeating as well, but away from the skyline.
As this project is progressing, I am researching more and more surreal photographers. For this one below, I was told to check out Rene Magritte. I was familiar with his work before this (most famous for “The Son of Man”). But it wasn’t until this project began that I started to think about him inspirationally.

I've got Dali on the mind.
Surreal 3
When I was a kid, I was a dancer and a gymnast. My favorite place to be was on stage. This one illustrates that.
Day 2, surreal 2
The portrait is a photo that I took at the met of a Alfred Stieglitz silver gelatin print when they were doing a retrospective of his work last winter. The image is actually a very sad portrait, you get very lost in her eyes, and (for me at least) feel her pain. The photo had been sitting in my hard drive in a folder under the name “why can’t I delete you?!”. It’s filled with random shots of things that for one reason or another just intrigue me. She was/is one of them. So for this shot I wanted to make her less appealing to me, make a mockery of her. To do so, I knew I’d have to mess with her eyes. I had a photo of a plastic baby doll head, so I put those in place… Keeping the color even though the image is b&w. I then colored her lips in to balance the color of the eyes. Lasty, I drew a tattoo style tear drop on her face to comment back on the original sadness that Stieglitz intended to have.
Surrealism
Ever since I had the ability to pick up a pencil I have always drawn, painted, sculpted, photographed (etc etc etc) an imaginary world. A world that I wish others were able to see. I guess that I’m one of those few adults that has still been able to hold onto my imagination… I feel very lucky for that.
I’ve always viewed myself as more of a “fine artist” (if you will…). I don’t think my style always fits into conformity. My favorite project in college was one where I took street portraits of friends, and replaced their heads with forks, spoons, and knives.
I think its important to take time out of your day and try to look at the world differently. Try to imagine the unimaginable. Below is one of my surreal landscapes that I’ve been working on.
Wedding Shoot
About a month ago, I had the pleasure of shooting an amazing wedding for a beautiful couple that got married in a book store! I shot with my awesome roommate and best friend, Fraylie ( http://fraylienord.com/ ). Obviously, the goal of this wedding was to actually shoot the event, but I couldn’t help myself and shoot some still life/quiet moments. Here are a few selects that I loved from the night.
Cosmetics Shoot... if your hands are clean you're doing it wrong...
The other day I had the pleasure of working with my lovely friend, Jay Wen (http://realitycoma.tumblr.com/), and we played around with some cosmetics. Things got messy, and some awesome shots happened as well.

They’re an awesome company selling an awesome product, make sure you go and purchase some of their delicious teas!! Below are just a few of the shots that I worked on with the team, but make sure you also go through their website to see all of the product shots I did as well!

Resolutions:
So I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what my “new years resolutions” for 2012 are going to be… and although I’m not going to just list out all of them here for all of you to read (I’ve always felt that a resolution should be a private thing), I will say this. 2011 was a really hard year for me. I am no where near the same person i was a year ago, but in a good way. Saying all of that, I hope that this year will be better then the last, and that this time next year (if we all don’t die in some sort of Armageddon related happenings) that I’m an even better version of myself then I am now.
Enjoy, this end of the world themed song by Aerosmith:
Lightbulbs
It’s been forever since I’ve posted… I can think of about 100 different reasons as to why exactly this is, but the truth is that I just haven’t felt that creative as of the late I suppose. I recently moved to Brooklyn and my main concern has been decorating. I love decorating.
ANYWAY… I have been very into light lately. The way it can grace a face in the different times of day or the way it can creep into your room in the morning through the crack of your shades. I find myself stopping short on the streets of manhattan and just staring at the way the sun falls across a street. But, also as a photographer I am trained to notice these things… Donuts nothing out of the ordinary BUT… This obsession with watching light has transformed me into watching the way lightbulbs light the night.
A big project is brewing in my mind… A landscape… Yes, it’s true I am actually going to leave the comfort of my still life studio for this project!!! A landscape full of lightbulbs, the finesse details are still going on, but it feels good to have the creative juices flowing again :-)
After a very long hiatus, my personal projects have begun again
Always inspirational
